The great pickle-lamp experiment

I’m not a science teacher. However, as the “secondary teacher” and “lead teacher” of a three-teacher school (two classroom and one special education), I had no choice regarding middle school science. For this group (six kids ranging from fifth to eighth grade), I had to wing it. I knew that nobody would judge me too […]

Planes, ferries, and the occasional automobile

For about three years I traveled eight times a year between Craig and small communities in Southwestern Alaska. First, I would take the ferry (45-minute drive plus three hours on the boat) or a small plane (30 minutes total but expensive) to Ketchikan. Then, I would sometimes spend the night at my mother-in-law’s house. I […]

I live in Alaska but it isn’t cold.

Posted on January 2, 2021February 28, 2021 by Evelyn J. Willburn

I spent my first ten Alaska years in Anchorage where we got some A-for-effort winters, but even there the Gulf Stream is a tempering influence. About Me and my Blog

I am Evelyn J. Willburn, a retired educator who is fortunate enough to live in the rain forest of Southeast Alaska. I love to write! I find great inspiration in where I live (Craig, Alaska), in where I grew up (Powhatan, Virginia), from my husband and grown sons, my two excellent sisters, my extended family and friends, my pets and my garden, and the world all around me.

In addition to my own writing, I am posting work by other writers, including my late father and my very talented sister Laura.

My sister Mary hasn’t contributed any writing yet, but she is busy volunteering all over town and keeping her garden free of groundhogs.
