Just laugh at it: Guest blog by Laura J. Graham

(I’m glad somebody is writing! Good stuff, sister.)

Just Laugh At It

What do you do when your $1800 new hay mower won’t cut hay, and the people who sold it to you take their own time about fixing it and weeks later when you’re on the phone insisting on results, the owner of the business is rude to you and chews tobacco in your ear?

Just laugh at it.

What do you do when you buy $82.00 of fabric and ship it to a trade school who can have students cover a chair for $15, and the teacher who had previously promised to drive your chair there suddenly decides you have to take it yourself, so you drive it there over an hour away, and they put the fabric on someone else’s chair?

Just laugh at it.

What do you do when you buy a $1200.00 computer solely for your children’s school work, and the modem quits working and it takes three trips to the shop and $200 to fix it, plus a dozen technical calls where you sit on hold five minutes each time, and on the next to the last call you’re told to hang up and call back?

Just laugh at it.

And then you stop by the store to get a week’s worth of groceries, and as soon as they are bagged but before the bagger has put them back in your cart, a woman grabs your cart and runs off with it, though the bagger tells her you will need it.  And while you are standing speechless, the man next in line smirks at you and says, “I told her she could have it.”

Just go home.

  1. Thanks for publishing! I will add that these episodes written up years ago when things were cheaper. I was remembering how we, especially Mama and Daddy, would chime in at frustrating moments with “Just laugh at it.”

Thanks for reading! Any musings or recollections of your own to share?
