Where in the world am I, anyway?

Greetings from sunny (sort of) Twin Hills, Alaska! Today’s offering is a photo essay of sorts:

Here’s the school, with teacher trailers on the left. I’m in the one on the far left.

Here’s the view of the Twin Hills landfill, from my perch on Olive (my fourwheeler).

When the school garbage starts to pile up, I put it in the cart and ride Popeye (the school’s big fourwheeler) out to the dump. It’s kind of therapeutic, and it makes me feel quite versatile, like a real village principal. That’s Olive in the background. She prefers not to pull the cart.

Twin Hills (most of it) is in the foreground. Across Togiak Bay you can see the village of Togiak (about ten times bigger than Twin Hills). Behind Togiak you can see, left to right, “Three-Hill” and “Two-Hill.” Out of the frame on the right is “One-Hill.”

And here are the iconic Twin Hills. You’ll probably see a lot of these images over the next school year. You can see the village at the lower right of the bigger hill.

I’m told that there are bones of the “Little People” up on this flat-topped hill. The Little People are the size of children, they move fast, and they are wicked in the extreme.

This, I believe, is Round Island, where there is a walrus sanctuary.

Zooming out, see Round Island on the right.

And here, for your viewing pleasure, is my “Principal Willburn” mug shot. Who’d’a thunk it, after all these years?

  1. Thanks for the tour! The little people show up on the Seward Penninsula as well. People never see them, but they leave signs.

Thanks for reading! Any musings or recollections of your own to share?
